7 Tips to a Cleaner Kids Corner
/
We all know the importance these days of ensuring your business puts your customers’ health first. And this includes the kids in their care! Here are our 7 Tips to a Cleaner Kids’ Corner.
1. Assess what items are in your kids’ corner
Remove anything that cannot be cleaned or sanitised daily. Avoid items that are porous and cannot be wiped clean. Soft toys should only be included in single use settings and never shared.
2. No eating or drinking
Remind families that your kids’ corner is not a space for eating or drinking in. Include a prominent sign and provide a waste bin where possible so kids are encouraged to clean up after themselves.
3. Allocate responsibility
Add the kids’ corner to a cleaning schedule. The area should be cleaned a minimum of once daily. Keep the schedule on display nearby the area with times checked to instill parents and carers with confidence that the area is well looked after.
4. Read the instructions
Ensure cleaning is carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Select items that can be wiped down with a clean cloth and soapy water and/or non-abrasive cleaning solution. Items such as touch screens should be able to withstand wiping with detergent wipes. Only use cleaning equipment approved by your business, and that is non-toxic.
5. Clean all surfaces
Ensure all surfaces of the play equipment are cleaned daily (at a minimum). Wipe around handles and under flaps and parts that can be lifted. Avoid small pieces that need to be individually wiped. Toys that require storage baskets also provide places for dirt to hide and increase the amount of time spent cleaning.
6. Don’t forget about the furniture!
There is an abundance of fabrics now that can be wiped clean and include finishes which inhibit the growth of bacteria and mould. All CFS custom furniture is made with such fabric.
7. Good hand hygiene
Encourage the kids to participate in good hand hygiene practices by keeping a sanitiser station close to the entrance of the kids’ corner. Ensure the refilling of the station is on the cleaning schedule.
TOP TIP: Avoid toys, activities, and storage solutions where kids can post things! There’s nothing worse than discovering a chewed rusk or used tissue inside a toy box!
